What’s your period like?

Hi ladies, I’m curious to know what your periods are like. Are they heavy or light? Are you noticing any color or texture changes? Sorry if I’m asking a slightly graphic question, I just need to understand my changes.

Mine are clotted and heavier. The first few days are intense. And then it quickly turns into low flow. My periods now only last 5 days, but those first few days it’s like I’m bleeding a week’s worth. And the clots are huge! I use a cup, and can fill it every two hours at my heaviest point. I’m still regular, with a 27 day cycle. I’m 43, and I think I’m just now inching my way into peri menopause. Thanks for asking this. I’ve been wondering how others are too!

This sounds a bit like mine, especially the clots

I have been like this for 7years -been to drs and been prescribed medication to reduce bleeding – wish I had gone years ago and not just accepted it. It’s worth asking to be checked out for fibroids too x good luck everyone x

I’m similar to this but my cycle is irregular – only four days out usually

You’ve just described how mine are too. Finished super fast, I have one very heavy day where I inevitably leak into the bed at night, but then it tails off really quickly. Is this normal then ladies?

Same! Very flirty now and this is the first month I’ve gone 31 days abs still no period! It was coming every 22-25 days. I’m 48. Please let it end. Lol.

Mine have been like that for about a year, but last time they were lighter still lasted 5 days but then 2 weeks from end of last one I started again, lighter but still going now almost 2 weeks later, just spotting the last 5 days

This is what happened to me. I finally went to the doctors originally as I was having terrible constipation, they did a blood test, as after a very quick investigation I found I had fibroids. Through this I as I realised I was filling my cup so quickly and that was unusual but To me it seemed normal. I was giving medication which was amazing, and now I’ve opted for the IUD. I’m only three months in so side effects are a bit pants but I think you have to give it six months.

Please make sure you monitor your mood, IUD’s can after a while can lead to you feeling down for no real reason. Just a bit holehum. I’m not saying it will happen but some people I know have had that as a side effect after having it in fort awhile, myself included. I also experienced some weight gain as well and it being more difficult to lose. The joys of being a woman. I wish the best for you.

Me too, two days where I feel I can’t leave the house. I can go through a super plus tampon in an hour

Wow, I literally am having this same experience right now for the first time. Leaked on my very beautiful white sheets. Oh, well.

Oh wow me too , just been giving tranexamic acid and it has definitely slowed the flow, I was on HRT but too many endometriosis symptoms started flaring up so I stopped them as I read it can start it again ?xx

This sounds like the first few days of mine. There is a reason I call it “hell week” I’m 49 and have been in perimenopause since age 35

Same here. I thought it was just myself.

This sounds like mine too. Thankyou for commenting!

Crissi, I am exactly the same. And also 43. :0)

Hey Melissa – if you can’t have a period discussion in a menopause group, where can you? ☺️
I’m peri-menopausal and have noticed changes in the last year. I’ve gone from a steady/regular five days with pain on the first, heavy-ish flow on days one and two and then light to irregular dates, the MOTHER of all tidal flows for first three/four days and then might be over or might drag on for another three or four days with unpredictable/erratic light flow/spotting. Hope that helps!

Thank you this is so me!

?. Very true !! Mine have only been regular on birth control!! Has been crazy from day one start !! Very heavy with crazy clots but last month was just like tar so far this month nothing ( I was supposed to get it 2 weeks ago)

I am like this too. First day medium to heavy, 2nd day heaviest, then next 3-4 days will vary from medium to light. I can even appear to stop flowing just to start again the next day (this is usually on day 4). Average length 5 days. I’m 48 years old.

Definitely me!

Mine is heavy, unpredictable (can last 5 days or two weeks) with lots of clots. The only way I am able to have it not be clotted is to drink a gallon of water a day, works like a charm! I’m 48 and started showing this sign, my first sign when I had a nexplanon put in (birth control), which I love. I can’t wait until my period stops.

Yup, irregular dates, the rushing red river first few days, then the guessing game of when the final gush will happen among the spotting. Sometimes a bit of brown old blood will torment me for another week to week and a half after.

This is me! I’m 48. I’ve even had some stringy uterine lining on the last super slow spotting type days. It feels like I get a week or two break in between periods before the fun starts all over again.

I’m 53 and on year 3 of insanity! I have 10 day cycles, then 153 day cycles. I’ve gone from pink water and 4 days to passing huge clots every hour for three days straight. My periods tend to be so heavy I cannot leave my house. Periods last about 14+ days. I just can’t live like this. Can’t and won’t do HRT because breast cancer in the family. My GYN thinks ablation will help. I told her, so will a hysterectomy. Friends who have had ablation or d/c had two months of normal. I want 25+ years of normal. Have read heavy long periods are a sign of not ovulating. Blood test say I’m menopausal but don’t say how long this battle will continue. I’m waving the white flag and asking for a hysterectomy.

Thank you, I thought it was just me who could bleed for over a fortnight, it’s awful, I’ve been sent home from work so many times, it’s so embarrassing! The doctors won’t listen when I beg for it all to taken away, I hate it. I have no warning signs, no cramps not mood swings just massive clots. I’m now permanently on iron tablets , all I’ve been offered is the coil which I’ve refused on the grounds I’ve been pulled around enough and they can’t guarantee it would even work.

Oh my goodness. I am sooo relieved I found this thread. I am on day 15 of a period and it’s been really heavy for most of it. I was getting so anxious about it but this has reassured me things aren’t that unusual. I’ve been tracking symptoms for a couple of years now.

I literally came here looking for others to help calm my anxiety! I am on day 12 of a period which started only 16 days after my last. I am 47 and was expecting changes but I have continued to remain very “scheduled” just some heavier flow the first day or two and more cramping as I’ve gotten older. Having another period so soon and it hasn’t stopped had my anxiety through the roof that all kinds of things are wrong with me. Still will be making a GYN appt in the near future but much relieved that this isn’t “not normal”.

Wow I thought it was me I’m on day 14 of heavy flow I’m absolutely drained with so much fatigue ?

I’ve also been experiencing extremely heavy bleeds with blood clots. I’ve had womb scans etc and all coming back normal. My last was so heavy and lasted for 4 weeks! In the end it was Moxibustion that stopped my bleed! Moxibustion is when you burn Mugwort (Artemisa) close to certain acupuncture points! My herbalist told me the points to work on so I could do it myself at home! Feels great to have this in my tool bag.

Why does this thread actually give me some relief and make me feel normal that my flow lasts for days on end! I went for about a year with very light to no period and then all of a sudden a normal period that would last 4-5 days but reoccur every 2 weeks. And now I’m bleeding heavy with clots for 3 days and then sporadic light bleeding for another 7 days. I might get a week relief and then it starts all over again. Thankfully no cramps.

Beta. I’m so sorry to hear this. What a roller coaster of a ride u r on. I’m 49 1/2. I experienced similar as you. Dr wanted to do ablation without doing any test or considering other options. I bled nonstop for weeks turned into months. Became anemic lost time from work. I finally did my own research and found a Dr who specifically dealt with womens issues. Found out I had fibroids. I underwent Uterine embolization which decreased the bleeding in 3-4 months. I’m peri menopause now. I want to encourage u find other options if hysterectomy is not what u want.

Mine come sooner. I used to be very regular — every 28 days, but now I’m more like every 26 days. They last about the same amount of time — 5 days — but they’re clottier and smell stronger. My PMS symptoms now to two weeks out, and I swear I can feel myself ovulating. I get ovulation cramps in my abdomen and lower back. I’m 45 and started noticing these changes in my cycle over the past year.

This is me! I’m 50

Very similar experience over last 2 years. Pms like I’ve never had before! Started HRT and the symptoms are a lot better – especially anxiety and insomnia

Hi, some months my period is light and then some months its heavy like niagra falls. Some months ill have the worst cramps and then on other months it just shows up. Even the smell is different. The color can be really fark or bright red. This mo th it was bright red and very little clots. Also the length of time varies now. I always had 3 days, now i can have 3 days or 7 days where my 2nd day and third day are heavy and spots the rest of the time. Lol

I’m currently peri-menopausal, with irregular periods that are now really heavy for the first 1-4 days, dark in colour with clots (similar to my post pregnancy bleed). During this stage it feels like my womb is being ripped out! Then my period becomes lighter, brighter red in colour and ends after 10-14 days.
Prior to experiencing menopausal symptoms at age 42, my periods were medium-light, lasted 4-5 days and were really uneventful!

Mine start light for 3 days then heavy and I clot for the last 3 days.10days in all .I may go 5day between or 5 weeks I never now .

Hi Tracey, I’m the same really light first 5 /6 days, then heavier until day 10 when I have heavy bleed for those days. I’ve had the Mirena coil in 10 days ago, raging cramps on the last 2-3 days of my period and small clots too

I’m 51. Mine are pretty regular each month for around 5 days. But last year they switched to being much heavier, often thick clots that defied even super tampons. I developed monthly 3 day long intense headaches. Over the year things settled back down, lighter and no headaches. This year I’m back to the terrible 3 day headache phase but not so heavy.

The headaches are frustrating for me – nothing helps – it’s just a nagging pain for days. I also get an intense sense of smell – I can smell everything so strong – even the linoleum in our downstairs bathroom is so overwhelming I can’t be in there. I swear, if they had a book titled, “What to expect when you’re menopausing” I would check off every symptom mentioned lol.

Haven’t had one in over a year but before that that were light to medium flow.

Hi , I have noticed that mine have been irregular when used to be regular, shorter and heavier and darker. I imagine I am the very start of my journey.

Me too. I’m 53 with every other symptom

Mine have gone from very heavy and short to longer and slightly lighter! I cannot wait for my last ever period! Lol.

Mine used to last 5 days. Now only last two days & are seriously heavy. It’s like 5days worth of blood in one day. Lots of tissue coming with blood & leaking through pads.

Mine are shorter 5 days instead of 7 days now. And still regular 27-28 days. I always have 1 day (usually day 2) where I can’t leave the house because the flow is so heavy and big clots (nickel to quarter size) that I have to be near a toilet at all times. I also get horrible migraines on day 1 and 2. Sometimes all week or longer. I’m 48 and at 42 my periods changed to that very heavy Day 2 and sometimes Day 3. Starting at 47 my periods changed to 5-6 days long and the commencement of migraines that seemed to coincide with my cycle.

Mine have always been heavy but ended by day 6. Started having heavy periods lasting 3-4 weeks with a week off and start again. After some tests it was determined to be hormonal changes. Dr. suggested to try an endometrial ablation before hysterectomy. So far I have been pleased.

No need to apologize here! It’s great we are sharing as menopause has been hidden away for too many years!
I’m 53 and peri menopausal- last year I had 2 periods in April and August. Pretty much normal. I’ve had 2 already this year but much lighter but darker and thicker than usual but more bloating. Not sure if HRT has affected this.

Mine are really heavy for the first few days (I use a cup and can fill it 4 times a day). It will last for 5 or 6 days or so but then I have a lot of bleeding in between too. So glad you asked this, I’ve been Googling this all day! I’m 45.

Can be really light one month then next time really heavy and wipe me out for a few days

Hi! I am 54 and still going through the menopause, my periods are currently every ten days, spotting first and then bleeding, not too heavy, but have to have a tampon and a towel they last sometimes for 3/4 days and other times 5/6 days, hope this helps you.

Im in my 50’s too and I’ve always been irregular. My periods are heavy the first few days and can last 6-7 days. I feel awful and I’m bloated with lots of cramping which I never got when I was younger.

Hi am new on here my periods have started to become late now my doctor says it’s my age because am 46

I’m 53. Still getting monthly periods although becoming more irregular. The cramps and leg pains are awful. The first 2 days very heavy with lots of clots. Lately it’s been lasting about 3-4 days. Sometimes it will come back full force with clots a day after. Last month I spotted for several weeks. It looked like the dark, end of period spotting

I turned 43 yesterday. My periods have always been very predictable and not at all something to think about. Between my first period and age 30, I never had any cramping, heavy flow/ gushing, clots or bloating etc. I have always had mild mood changes and my periods have always been around 4 days. After 30 (and five pregnancies) I started noticing changes. At 40, I felt more irritable with periods, but still predictable and mostly non eventful with day one being staining (almost brown color) day two being ‘normal’ flow (dark red color) and day three my heaviest day (bright red color) and day four / five back to very light flow. Now, I have a 5 day of energy and I’m driven to clean and do projects and I make plans then three days of being snappy. Day 1 of my period feels like I am having heavy flow, breast pain bloating, angry, but with only staining and I am completely exhausted. Day two I feel the same barely make it out of bed and I wonder if I might start my period for real but don’t. Day three is full of light flow huge gush pattern. All days bright red and very thin. Exhausted.

Ongosh.. this is almost exactly my pattern. I’m 45 years old. I always cramp bad for one day a week BEFORE I start (weirdest thing, it’s like a warning) Then when I start a week later day one cramps a little but day 2 major cramps and day 3 the same – barely get out of bed. Last 4 days and when I think I’m off day 6 pours out again. Bright red and blood clots dime- nickel. I go through/ and finish a box of super tampons big 28 tampons I believe in box.

Irregular, darker and clots when I do have them. Last about 10 days too.

I forgot about the clots, lol, does that mean I’m also losing my mind. It feels like it sometimes.?

I’m 49 and am noticing changes to mine! Some months really light , others very heavy. Most recently though I have noticed very light spotting on and off so I’m guessing things are changing. I used to be really regular and they would last 3 days. If I wasn’t 49 I would be contacting my GP ?

I’m on the pill. Regular moderate periods since forever. First day of last expected period, very light and dark brown for 5 days. Paranoid I was pregnant but tests all negative. Thinking this is perimenopausal? I’m 42.

My periods have went from monthly, always on time, to donzo. I’m 47, & after my tubal 16 yrs ago, they were hell & heavy. But I had an ablation done & once I started having periods again. They were very light, to lighter, to having to see up close “is that blood?” Since getting on hormones, I notice spotting but no periods since September. Just out of nowhere, I didn’t have another period. Certainly not what I expected.

Glad I didn’t opt for just a tubal. I can’t imagine being more heavy than now.

After 4 fairly large vaginal births ( 8.5lbs to 10.5lbs) I found my periods become heavy and darker with “clots” … found due to the lack of horrible cramps or pms it is a normal thing… I’m heading towards 49yrs now.. and my cycle is showing premenopausal signs clearly.. but the darker with clots periods are remaining… but that’s me??‍♀️ We’ll see after my next gyno exam…

Mine were always 28 days every other month would be evil totally floor me over the last year they have changed to anything between 15 and 31 days but until this one I was around 25 days this one was only 16 it’s much heavier then normal and dark dark red. I’m 37

I’ve noticed irregular, very heavy ( almost concerning) and longer ?

My cycles are few are far between now. Year 1, they were tsunami strength, lasted about 5 weeks (at full nautical speed) and I had exactly 1 week off before another 5 week tidal wave. Year 2, I had (for the first time EVER in my life) a normal period that lasted about 5 days and only required a medium pad and those 3 cycles were on Feb 24, July 22, and December 21. So far, I’m expecting a cycle in May if the pattern continues. I’ve never been one to keep track of anything but the correlation of symptoms to perimenopause and the pattern has me intrigued. It’s like a mystery novel where you pretty much know what’s going to happen but you can’t wait to see it unfold.

Hi Melissa. I’m not sure if I’m peri-menapausal or not?? Last year I went for about 7 months with no periods at all but started to get a tingling feeling in my head around February 2019 and the GP sent me for an MRI which showed nothing. I was given B12 3 times a week for 6 weeks and then every month for a year after that. I started to have periods again. They were really heavy and often lasted for around 2 or 3 weeks then stopped a week or 10 days and started again. I went back to the GP and they stopped the B12 and tested my blood again saying I needed Iron so I took iron twice a day for around 2 months and felt awful with ongoing heavy periods but they seemed to sort themselves out to a kind of 7 days on 21 days off routine. They’re deep red, lots of clots and sharp pains in my pelvic area afterwards. I feel better not taking any iron or B12. I’ve not taken any birth control for about 20 years and was told things might be easier with menopause as I’ve been more “natural” and prior to a trauma in 2016 things were going along fine but it doesn’t feel that things are easier at the minute anyway. I’m 50. Ali. X

I turn 44 this year and I’ve been having irregular periods now for 3 years. I track them so I can see what is going on. I used to be able to set my watch to my periods, which were always 28/29 days apart but then they started protracting to 35 days. When I hit 40 it got even longer between! Now it can be anything between 35 and 90 days! I’ve seen the GP loads and they always say it’s too early, but from reading others experience of flow and symptoms I am sure I am now peri! ??‍♀️ The last couple of years it’s been super heavy for a day, with clotting, others watery light.

See thats me too im only 41 but ive got all these symptoms and theyre becoming more of an issue with day that passes ive always had regular periods every 26 days then a few years ago i was 2 weeks late then started having it every 21 days now its about every 16-18 days they keep getting shorter too day 1 its a pretty bad crime scene lol day 2 kinda regular-ish day 3 spotting to to nothing horrible horrible cramps my joints hurt sooo bad im in tears and im always always hot then the hot flash makes it feel like im in dantes inferno idk what to do or who to really talk to cause every one says “your to young yet” no im not trust me i feel like im 100 years old

Omg! Me too! I’ll be 43 in a month and I’ve never had children but my cycles were pretty regular. The last 3 years my cycles went from 30 days/monthly to 25 days and sometimes 2-3 months in between or like last month in November, I had a period every 2 weeks. I call it shark week! I have clots that take me down to my knees and bust through and “ultra” tampon and pad and my new boyfriend totally got grossed out due to the sheets being ruined 2 nights in a row! FML!
I went to my GP a month ago and all my blood work shows I’m normal but I have every frickin symptom under the rainbow that says I’m going through the chance. My period tracker on my iPhone is wonky and I swears laughs at me when I’m in there every day logging spotting – especially after sex. Being a woman is soooo complicated!

Mine are very irregular. When they do come it is very slow to start, with just minor spotting and smearing and then about 2 days later it his full force. Very heavy for around 9 days.

Very much lighter and highly erratic. Just had first period of the year and they can be anywhere between 23 days and 101 days apart. The PMS symptoms have gone crazy however and my moods have been horrendous

Mine are clotted and very heavy. I go through overnight pads every few hours. I’ve had the Nexplanon implant for about a year. My period hasn’t stopped. Before the implant my flow was 7-10 days of heavy and non-clotted. Hysterectomy is in a little over a month and everything will be removed except my cervix and right ovary. Implant will also be taken out. I don’t recommend this implant for anyone. My blood pressure is high, so options were limited. Also have little/no sex drive. Has made my senses more sensitive. It’s like relearning how to do everything. I’ve become pretty anemic even with iron supplements. Looking forward to everything coming out. I’m 39 and have 2 kids.

I’m 50 and my usual 30 days ( never shorter) have started to be 3 weeks. Very heavy bleeding ( ultra size tampon every 1.5 hours) on first 2-3 days but then that light almost-not-there bleeding lasts for sometimes 10 days. That’s bad enough, but it’s the mood swings the week before my period that kill me. I’m so angry and frustrated and as soon as I bleed, it’s like the world lifted from my shoulders and I get almost manic. It only lasts though about a week before i start getting sad which turns to the anger, etc. I thought periods were supposed to gradually get farther apart until they disappeared??? I don’t know how long I can take this without some sort of help.

Hi I’m almost 47 years old I had regular periods up until this month I have all the symptoms of a period starting but nothing I’m almost a week late I was worried I could be pregnant but use condoms and have had no accidents or slip ups I do get headaches hot flashes and some periods are agony others not so bad just wondering if anyone else experiencing similar

Hi, I’m 46 and had my first missed period and thought the same thing(pregnancy)?I’ve never been irregular or missed a period until now. It only happened once and the following month I was back on track. I didn’t know what was going on and no one to talk to. Finding this app was the best thing ever.

Just had this too

This is my story too! I’m 11 days late and have never been late previously. I’m 45. So good to know I’m not the only one.

Melissa no problem. We need to ask interesting questions how else can we learn. I’m 49 so I’m waiting for my periods to finally stop. Day 1 starts out light and the discharge is brown at first. Then goes bright red and heavy. Cramps, migraines, start and continue for at least a day. I have to use ultra tampons and a pad. Day two still heavy red and blood clots and it slowly starts to slow down, I switch to just pads now. Day three still red but slows down to medium flow. The next few days are pretty much like day 3. Now my period slows down to spotting by day 5-6. The color is now light red and fades to clear. I am on birth control so I take my last pill on a Saturday and my period starts on Wednesday and I start the pills on Sunday and by Tuesday it is done.

Mine are all over the place, I’m so heavy and bad clots one month I’ll miss for up to 48 days, then this time it’s lasted 4weeks none stop I’ve taken tablets to stop it but it’s not stopping, I suffer with endometriosis, I had a fibroid/ cyst removed 3yrs ago, now I’m in my early 50’s and fed up with it all now.

Hi, I’m 49 and for last 4 yrs mine have been erratic, either heavy (with clots) or light. For the last 2 yrs I’ve missed a couple of periods and those I’ve had, have lasted between 4-6 days. Currently I’m on Day 7 and the flow seems to be getting heavier. It’s all so tricky, very hard to see a doctor too.

There is only one common theme to my periods and that is each one is different every time. Long, short, none at all, heavy, light, cramp or no pain at all. Last one was 60 days between this one is 17days. It’s a real pain as I can’t plan anything. Had myself checked in 2019 when this started happening and all ok just peri-menopausal I guess. I’ve just had a cervical screening test which I’m waiting for the results of. I’m 49 and up until 4 yrs ago was as regular as clockwork.

I actually thought the older I got the lighter it would get but how wrong was I. A packet of pads last 2 days can’t even use tampons cuz of the clots and the size of them.

Mine have been spotting at first for a year then no period at all for 8 months. Today was like a crime scene. I have never bled this much before and I am tired and miserable.

Light and short, but sometimes long, backache and Bloating

Hi I am 52 years old and now I am on hrt my periods are all still over the place and I have been on it over a year now . I have recently been having watery blood very light in color now every other week and really still painful but gone again just the same .

Don’t have them ?

Boobs are super sore 10 days before it’s gonna start, lots of blood and “chunks”. So gross.

My periods have been coming every 2 weeks, show varies from old dark blood to “watery” red color. No texture changes. No malodorous changes.

That’s exactly what mine are like ..

I’m 46 and I’ve been getting very short periods and cycles for the past 10 years. They range between 20-24 day cycles with very, very heavy 2nd and 3rd day and then it gradually trails off.

Am peri-menopausal (46) and mine have always been light and regular, then this month nothing – no period. Did pregnancy test just to be sure = negative. Still feels like it might appear

I’m the same ! Did exactly as you did – no period but have the pains . Did preg test – negative

This is so reassuring to hear. I am never late on my period and am 11 days late and my husband has had a vasectomy and I keep thinking maybe I should pregnancy test?? I’m 45.

My periods have always been regular but very heavy. The past couple of months they have become very light and irregular.

I was 45yr – They were moderate but sporadic. Age 48 I ended up w/ a partial hysterectomy due to a small tumor.

I was always very regular, five days every four weeks and with moderate flow which was slightly heavier at the beginning of my period. The gaps between periods are now variable – have been up to 47 days and as few as 19 days. They are generally lighter and tend to spread over seven days. I’m recently 48.

Mine were always heavy and painful, but got a lot worse starting in early 2018. It finally got so bad I had to have an ablation; couldn’t even get out of the shower once because every time I took a step I started gushing. ? It was awful. After the ablation, I just barely spot every other month or so. ??

I was always regular & 7 full days from the time I was 12. In my mid 40’s they started to be randomly very heavy, like change a super + tampon every 3 hrs heavy. Then I had some that were so heavy I could barely go an hour without leakage ? And cramps were brutal. Then, a year ago I had it every other week & was exhausted all the time. When I turned 51, I had a D&C & no period for a couple months, then a gross one, then none for a couple months again. Now I’m 52 & on progestin only pill & I’ve had two in 6 months. So, I’m ok with that. I still have one brutally heavy day & night.

Hi, mine got lesser and dark brown over a period of about a year and now I haven’t seen anything for 4 months.

Definitely irregular I have been every 28 days forever. Now I’m a week early, 2 weeks late, twice in a month. I still have a good amount of clotting the first 2 days then it’s very dark. Lasts only 3-4 days now. My periods used to last 6 days.

I’m Peri-menopause and have a coil fitted. My periods are barely noticeable now but the little discharge I do have is dark old blood.

Totally the same. After a lifetime of heavy periods and 4 kids I was fitted with a coil. Everything stopped, then after 11 years the coil fell out and I had months of continuous heavy clotting bleeding. Finally got coil refitted and now I have ovulation pain and dark brown but light bleeding each month. I’m 45

A brilliant idea to share this! My periods are regularly paced starting every 24 days w spotting/cramps randomly between. Periods have bloody mucous first day then a heavy flow day with clots. Third to fifth day is severe cramping and nausea with little to no bleeding.

I will turn 45 in April. Not many signs yet – but some suspicions – a rare night sweat, for example. My periods are regular. I often have brown spotting a few days ahead. I count the first day of my period when I start seeing red and it’s heavier than “spotting.” The first day is typically light, and then I have 2 days so heavy I wonder if I can survive it. The Shining elevator scene. I HATE having to be away from home these days, and I’ve had leaks and near-leaks in public. I’m dreading return to on-site work after COVID. From there, though, the remaining 3-4 days are just spotting/trickle. I can normally just wear my thinx with nothing else. My pms is a story for another forum, I guess. I never had horrible periods when I was younger. Every month I think, “five more years of this $#/@#. Maybe less.”

I used relate very much to this. Terrible PMS, brown spotting sometimes before period, first couple days heavy then light to almost nothing. Now at 48, it’s just starting to change. On my period now, still had bad PMS, but the first couple days just had a medium flow and now it’s back to light and hardly no cramping. I hope this change is here to stay and my periods just get lighter and lighter.

Lasts 1-2 days. Clots and darker than usual. Cramps sometimes a couple of weeks prior. Regular about every 30 – 32 days. Severe back pain. I’m 53.

Hi Melissa! Mine started becoming irregular last year. I’m 48 now. I will be 49 in June. My last period was in November, 2020. It’s been a little over 3 months, since it stopped. However, the Pre-period symptoms are still there. My breasts are tender, I feel bloated and no period;( right before my period stopped, so 2018, 2019- my periods were really heavy and very painful. I would have a dark blood first, then a normal flow. My Doc said I’m on my journey to MP…

Mine have changed a lot. Very heavy, almost no clotting, and a weirdly beautiful iridescent purple color. Sort of like an oil slick.

I finished the combined pill after using this for 23 years in November 2020 and have not had a period since

Hi ladies, I’m 46 and still having regular periods according to the last couple of months. What I am finding is that the day before and a couple of days into the period I feel really sore on the right side of abdomen below belly button to the touch and when I bend forward. I have previously had 2 cysts on my right ovary and they were treated but the sore feeling never left so I’m thinking it’s not that. It’s definitely period related as I’ve tracked when it starts and it’s followed by a period. My Gynae thought it was the cysts but I don’t think it is I will go back but just wondered if anyone has anything similar? It def isn’t cramps. Thank you.

Mine went to every 3 weeks and heavy – it was to the point it felt like they merged! Then all of a sudden they stopped! Haven’t had one for years now!

It seems my monthly’s have gone on holiday! My last bleed was october 2020! I was on HRT but my body got confused so my gp took me off it. Since then ~ October I had a BIG bleed clots and pain argh then to no bleeding. I have had cramps though which are painful & annoying

I’m 56 1/2. I just got mine after not having it for 3 months. Been going through similar symptoms of fatigue, itchiness, weight gain, achiness as when my first ovary was shutting down. Haven’t had a period in the odd months for about two years. I was hoping I was done, but it showed up Friday. The flow is definitely light and the odor is stronger. Same texture and color though. I’m hoping this will be the last one. My periods were always consistent, like clockwork. But these last six months have been on and off but always on the even months.

No period for two months

Hi, this is so helpful. Im 54 and still had regular periods up til last year. Noticed my breast much more sore, irregular periods and cramps getting worse. Then hot flashes started this year. Now I get night sweats and hot flashes every few hours. Missed my period last month. This is sure to be interesting.

I’m 43. My mother went through menopause about my age but she was a heavy smoker. I feel i am in beginning of peri menopause. My periods are heavier than they used to be with some clotting. I have way stronger PMS symptoms. In particular I have spotting and cramping between periods although the periods seem to be regular still. Thank you for asking this question.

Switched between watery and heavy clots. Became so heavy and prolonged, I was ‘flooding’ and I developed anemia. So at 49 I went on the pill to try to stave them off for a while. I occasionally have periods now but they last about 3-4 days. Been on the pill 18 months

I had an ablation done a few years ago so I don’t get clotting, just bleeding. For the most part my periods have been really light but this month it’s much heavier.

Heavier and clotted with some mild cramps

I was used to light flow periods lasting 3-4 days Max, cramping intermittent. I’m 46 now and have chronic persistent pain for first two days , it’s like a permanent cramp or stitch like feeling in my right ovary with exactly the same pain in the front of both thighs with hip pain too. I know my legs must be cramping because the muscles are sore afterwards when that pains gone. I do have a large fibroid (approx size of grapefruit now at front of my womb) it’s solid and can be felt easily by hand below belly button. Has TA to reduce blood flow but has to stop due to heartburn and reflux it caused. My first two days are heavy bleeding with lots of clots. Always without fail bleed through my clothes and bed sheets. Along with constant changing of towels. Can’t tolerate tampons at all. History of cancers of many types both sides of family and several generations so very much not wanting to go onto anything hormone related.

Irregular periods, heavy painful usually lasting 6/7days
Cramps headaches generally an off feeling.

My periods are all over the place. I’m on my cycle from 7-10 days and it’s coming every 10 days. This started I. January 16th. I’m thinking of asking doctor for birth control so I don’t have period at all. I’m just afraid of the side effects. The cycle I’m having now is heavy, but before only the first 2 days would be heavy then it would disappear mid day only to return that night or early next morning. I’m getting wore out with my body so off track.

Mine have become so full forced as my middle 40’s. I’m 46. It’s very dark in the first 2 days, feels like my pad is really soaked but its just that first day. After the first day it be still feeling like a lot , but it’s not really. The cramps have even become very painful as of lately. The flow is more worse at night. I just feel disgusted.! And it’s over in 4 -5 days. I’ve been pre-menopausal since 27. It’s like I can’t stand it anymore. I’m over them.

Mine are heavy for the first 1-2 days then becomes light for the next 3, then spotting for 2 days. I’m becoming slightly irregular (by a couple of days, either before I’m due or slightly after). They used to last barely 4 days but now it’s up to 7.

During those first two days, I have severe mood swings and have painful cramps due to suspected uterine fibroids (noticed by my gastroenterologist while having a colonoscopy — haven’t figured how she saw that since … well, you know).

I have mild hot flashes and night sweats. I’ve struggled with depression and anxiety since my 20s and I’ve been told that it might get worse during menopause.

Ugh. I’ve just signed up to this app and it’s almost tear inducing to know that I’m not alone.

It feels like I’ve had a constant period for nearly 18 months now. Fairly regular periods unit Oct 19 then nothing for 2 months then January and I actually thought I might bleed out. Clots, really heavy flow and three weeks of bleeding then a week off. It’s like a reverse cycle. I went to the hospital for an internal exam and was just about to have a biopsy (they found a large fibroid previously) and a coil fitted but then Covid hit and everything was cancelled. Now I’m trying to get back in touch with the Gynae consultant, and failing.

Furniture, bedding and clothing ruined, which is less important than when I’m expected to return to an office and I can’t leave the house for fear of leakage.

I just got off bc pills. I have been taking them continuously for about 5 years. 10 Years ago I would immediately start if I missed 1. I had some kind of brown spotting 3 days later. Then about 3 weeks later I had a heavy period for 3 days where I learned my lesson about carrying pads with me all the time.

Mine have become heavier and darker as I’ve reached my later 40s. There is an amazing book called ‘In The Flo’ by Alisa Vitti that is AMAZING. Wish I had read it in my 20s!!

Clotted and heavy. Terrible cramping too. I never had them in my youth but as I approach menopause they have been very painful with matching nausea. Ugh!! I cannot wait for menopause!

My periods use to be on a 28 day cycle. Now…. it’s irregular. I have had it as soon as 15 days, 20 days or as late as 30 days. The flow is heavy for about a day but I have a copper IUD. I definitely have more discomfort (cramps, bloating, moody) than I use to.

Irregular; longer (~7 days) and lighter. After day 3 it’s smooth sailing. Days 2 and 3 are icky, sticky, and messy.

Hi I haven’t had a period since March last year.

I’m 51 and mine are very light 3 days. Sometimes still cramp heavy, But having hot flash’s, on the” coupe” of the change

Mine are heavy for two days. Large clots and super and super+ tampons full in less than an hour. I do have adenomyosis so I have always had a heavy flow but the last two months are the heaviest. I’m 47 and want to know how long this will continue. My periods used to be 7 days but are now only 5 days and 2 are heavy.

I’m 47 and during the last 2 years my periods have been all over the place. At the moment my cycle is up to 93 days with just a few days of spotting in-between. It’s the longest time without a proper period I’ve ever had! I’m loving having no periods as they always trigger my IBS to flare up every month. It was hell. Constant bad guts with a heavy period is not good. It controlled my life so much that I couldn’t keep a job.

The consistency is heavy and thicker with clots and bright red at first, then goes darker quicker but that stage tends to go on and on. I thought it was just mine that smelt a little stronger but reading the comments from other ladies it’s nice to know it’s normal!

Mine have thickened and darkened considerably and are for less time now 3 days instead of the 6 it used to be.

My periods are all over the place sometimes I start heavy then it dwindles away to nothing after a day or so, then sometimes I’m heavy for about 3 days and just spotting after that for a few days.
My main problem is the pain I get whilst on my period, god it’s crippling and I’m not a moaning person I can cope with pain, but this is on another level, as anyone else experienced this? Thanks for letting me get that off my chest.

Yasss!! I sit and hold my stomach and pelvic and just cry sometimes!! I can leave the house and I feel like the pain is getting worse each month. It’s horrible

So I’m 34 and just got diagnosed by my gynecologist as peri menopausal, my periods have typically been your average normal periods until the past year, once every 28 days turned to anywhere from every 14 to 39 days but lasting only 3-4ish days and being rather heavy.

Used to be so regular- but have been totally unpredictable for the last year – so glad I don’t have to commute into the office (due to pandemic). Otherwise similar in flow: 2-3 heavy days followed by 3-4 light days.

My periods from the age of 12-43 were extremely heavy: lots of clots, extreme cramping the first 3 days/nights and long (8 days).
Now@44 I’ve gone into peri menopause after having COVID-19 for 4 weeks…..my periods are irregular: light bleeding, very short and sometimes only 2 days. I do have intense hot flashes that are so severe I vomit, my mood swings are either angry, anxious or crying….I started Paxil 20mg so I wouldn’t strangle my husband ??and it has helped w/the hot flashes!

My family has a history of breast and ovarian cancer: lost my mom, 2 aunts and a cousin either/both. My gyno oncologist wants me to have a radical hysterectomy but for some reason, I’m just not ready. Am I crazy for not doing the surgery? I feel like I’d be losing part of my womanhood (I felt like this@22 when I had breast cancer and had a mastectomy) Thoughts?

My period are changing and so unpredictable and irregular. I didn’t have one for 7 months last year and then it showed up longer than usual. My periods have normally been 3 days, this one was 7. The flow was about medium the whole time where as normally it’s heavy the first day and then tapered off. Then I had another one about 5 weeks later and then it skipped a month, and I had a period that was also about 7 days long but it was super light and spotty. Now a week after that I started spotting again for this part week. I noticed the blood seems darker to me, more brownish. I’ve had no cramps, but that’s not unusual for me, however, I have been extremely exhausted and unable to concentrate.

Honestly, I feel this question. Girls should stick together and let each other know you aren’t alone. I noticed a difference from when I was heavier versus when I loss weight. When I was heavier (275 lbs) my periods were irregular, heavier and I had to change my tampons every hour for 2 days until it became lighter. But another thing I noticed is when I still was heavier the period lasted no longer than 5-7 days. Now after I lost weight, my period has usually came after a month not so irregular, started experiencing cramps and my period would now last 7-14 days now (which is pretty normal) and isn’t usually heavy anymore.

I am having a period every week and a half. They start dark go light and end dark.

Before children I had light periods that only lasted 3 to 4 days.. now after children .. I have periods that are heavy for 3 days but lasting like 6 days .. and very painful .

For the last year mine came and went pretty quick, and like clockwork (28 day cycle) they lasted approximately 4 days, with my heaviest on day two – clotting, crazy heavy flow – didn’t want to leave the house – always accompanied with cramping and lower back pain. Last month this all changed – I didn’t ovulate (I’ve always felt my ovulation each month – twinge pain) – I was suppose to start my period on 3/16, but I only started to spot, and it was dark in color (reddish brown) – this spotting lasted 6 days. The spotting then transformed into a full blown period – heavy flow and clotting; however, I also had painful breast tenderness, insomnia, cold/hot flashes, and irritability – this lasted 5 days and eventually started to taper off back to dark spotting, which hasn’t let up since – I’ve been basically bleeding/spotting since 3/16 – today is day 21 – I’m still slightly spotting, and now I’m feeling cramping again, but mild. I’m curious – is it safe to say that I’m peri-menopause? If so, has anyone else experienced similar symptoms? If so, did your cycles run haywire like this for a long time, or was this it, a very lengthy cycle and you were done? That would be great, but it’s probably wishful thinking on my part 🙂

I skip my periods sometimes, then my period are light for 1-2 days.Sometimes only Spotting.I’m 39 years old.

I’m 49. My periods have become lighter, shorter and with little to no cramps or cravings. I never know when I’ll get one so that’s annoying but seriously peri menopause so far IS THE BEST THING EVER! The side effects I have from perimenopause are so much more manageable than my period has been my whole life since I was nine years old.

Some periods are light but very painful and I have a migraine condition, so the hormone changes aggravate that as well. Other times, my periods are heavy and even more painful. I just don’t want to get on even more pills for this condition. I’m already on medication for migraines, allergies and anxiety. I feel like I’m falling apart!!

Hah! My periods are always messy and gross no matter what I do as I take birth control pills as well…

Hah…I wish mine would stop like right this second, apparently my body has other plans however ?

I’m 49, think I’ve been heading into menopause for about a year or two now. My periods are still on time every damn month. Like lots of you, I usually have a day when I can’t go out and spend most of it just sat on the loo dripping (sorry, I know it’s gross). And leaking in the bed one night each month. I’ve started using “Always Discreet” disposable knickers with a towel inside them too, and set the alarm to wake up at 4 to change, then my bed usually survives the night!
They’ve only been heavy and clumpy for the last couple of years, before that I could go the whole way through just using light towels.
I long for the month when it doesn’t happen…

Lol I buy those Always Discreet’s too. ?‍♀️ I can’t believe I have to wear pull-ups like a toddler, but it’s the only way I can sleep without worry. They’re actually a great product. Now, if only they’d sell toilet paper on a roll the size of paper towels for us! ?

I’ve been on depression meds for at least 7-10 yrs now, they helped my periods become lighter and only 3 days. Always been regular, consistent since I was 11. My mom went through menopause early so I figured I would as well. I haven’t had any kids and I’m not on birth control, just always tracked my cycle. Last year when I was 42 I went a little over 50 days without a period, which I knew wasn’t right. Then I had my usual 2 at Xmas and my birthday in January when I turned 43. Then about 60 days until the next one. These couple were like normal, light bleeding, nothing crazy. I use the period underwear, Thinx. Well I’ve only needed light ones until now. The last 2 periods I’ve got this year, the flow has been heavier than normal (thankfully no clots) and I’ve gone through my 4 pairs of undies in one day. Super unusual for me. It’s usually the first 2-3 days and then another 2-4 days of a light (more normal) flow. Once I went 50 something days with no period, I knew I was pre menopause, I could bet money on how regular I’ve been. In the last couple months I’ve been starting to have all these other symptoms of pre MP, but didn’t realize how many of them were connected. I don’t feel quite so crazy anymore. I do feel weirder than usual, craving chocolate for weeks instead of days, sore boobs and headaches for more than 1-2 days, ovulating irregular, even with meds I cry more. These are weird times and I’m happy to have found this app and group, so I don’t feel too psycho ???! I know this long but hopefully it can help someone! I love reading all the comments and knowing I’m not alone!

My periods have started to get very irregular. Anywhere from 22-36 day cycles and while last year they were extremelynoainful and heavy, the last few have been very light and short.

I am now in day 24 of my period. Started lighter on April 15 and slowly got really light until May 3. May 3- today, flow is heavy with small, medium clots and cramping. I’ve been in progesterone for 10 days that ended yesterday. I’m over it!

Mine is clotting more and starts off really heavy on this first day.

I’m 42 and I’d say the last 2 years my periods have become very heavy for the first few days then lighter for about a week. Where they use to be very light and around 3-4 days. I feel very tired and irritable the first couple of days too.

Very heavy got at least three days and prolonged sometimes up to 9 days

I’m 54 and recently came off HRT because of horrendously heavy periods. I’ve not had one since. Managing other symptoms pretty well with herbal remedies.

Mine are quite heavy the first 2 days (can’t be far away from a washroom!) but then light and done after 5 days. I’m now spotting a fair amount between regular periods too. Sigh.

So for the last few months I’ve either missed a period altogether, had a period every two weeks which have been very heavy for 3-5 days and then this week, all
Symptoms that I was going to have the mother of all periods and I just had light spotting for a day! I have no clue where I am with it all!!!!

Did I say something wrong in what I shared? I don’t see it anymore. I’m sorry.

Mine are extremely heavy and last 13 days or more. I found out I have to have surgery, a partial hysterectomy. I was told this could happen without surgery but I have a lot going on down there so I pray it helps cuz it’s miserable

I’m periporsal, they drive me crazy I can go from one every month to not having any for 6 months (yay all done) to having them so heavy I have to use pull-ups cause pads can’t cope with the flow with super cramps and mood swings, all 3 of the males in the house know that when my mood swings start to stay away and throw chocolate from the nearest door and run ( they call it hand-grenade time!!) I also get my OCD mood as well when I will blitz on a certain room in the house.

Since menarche at 12 until now at 45: typically very predictable 27-28 day cycle with cramps only the first 24 hours, then pretty smooth sailing from there. The past 6 months though have been a living nightmare!!! Gradually MUCH shorter cycles (typically starting period an entire week EARLY!) and excruciating PAIN before I even start and for DAYS thereafter! Flow is heavier and more clots, but I can deal with that. It’s the pain that’s nearly debilitating! So, ultrasound done and apparently I have Adenomyosis and thus my beloved “Baby House” is coming OUT in a few weeks! I’ve never been more excited for a surgery before! Seriously. NO. MORE. PERIODS!!! ?

It’s really comforting to see all these different period cycles! Mine spots for 4 days, heavyish for 3 and then spots for another 3 days. They seem to be getting closer together too. I only finished a couple of weeks ago and was poorly last week and started to spot again. Didn’t know if it was because I was ill or it’s just erratic anyway at the moment. Am going to keep a track.

My irregular periods have been so frustrating. I’ll gob3-4 mos w/out period and say to myself “yay, only 8 mos to go until I’m in menopause,” and then I get my period and curse at myself that I have to start the countdown over!

I’m 52 and definitely in the peri-menopause phase. My cycles are anywhere from 21 – 29 days. A bit of sometimes light, sometimes dark spotting the first day to heavy with clotting for 2-3 days. It may stop for a day and start again for a few, but much lighter. Then I will have days of dark stuff. The texture then is much different. Almost dry and stringy for lack of a better explanation. It seems like the “normal” cleaning process that my body used to go through at the end of my period has halted and everything is just a bit stuck. I notice more after a bowel movement. And then it stops until about 15 days later when it all starts again. I have about a week and a half where I feel like my old, normal self.

Mine are super heavy! Lasts for 6 days and are very painful

Mine been heavy since age 12 but haven’t had a period for three months and iam only 47

They’ve been pretty regular at around 21 days, start light then heavy for two days then gradually taper off. But I went 5 weeks without one and now I’m on day 37 of bleeding…

I’m 51 and last year I didn’t bleed for 10 months. Now it’s nearing one year again. Prior to all of this I was bleeding too heavily to exit my house for more than an hour and a half. I was already anemic and losing those endless amounts of blood had a worsening effect. I hope to make it to one yr. this time.

I’m 44 and I’ve had so many symptoms I keep hoping it’s my last period and it just stops. I’ve been in Perimenopause since I was 34 and I’m ready for it all to be over.
I went through several months where I had a period every two weeks and that seems to be back again unfortunately, I have strange taste buds, my joints hurt ,I’m fatigued constantly, I have night sweats, cold sweats ,dry eyes, psoriasis on my face …mostly the cheeks and nose area and sometimes on my ankles. At first I thought maybe the recent stress Was that my son is graduating high school and going to college this fall and that may not be helping but I have so many emotions I feel like I’m on an emotional roller coaster. On a Good note are sex is great!!!! I just joined this app and I’m just glad to see that I’m not alone and how I’m feeling emotionally and physically.

I use to be like that… hated leaving the house for a few days as would be scared to sit down anywhere ? my last bad one was last year when I had COVID and laid on sofa for 2 weeks… coughing made me wee so what with bleeding heavily as well it was hellish… haven’t had one for a good few months now so hopefully that’s the end… I’m 58 x

I am now at day 14 of a cycle feeling faint as it was initially heavy but has just not stopped ? I am 47 on HRT (since age 45 due to horrendous flashes, night sweats, weight gain migraines….) and having irregular periods am hoping this means I am nearing the end…..hope you don’t have too many symptoms x

My period stop Since I had miscarriage 3 years now, I been going to doctor all the time. And my last appointment was last year and it was cancelled due to lock down.

Mine are odd. I am down to only 3 days with day one being HORRIBLE cramping (like being in end stage labour), day two being light flow but heavy clotting and day three just spotting. It’s been like that for about a year, with the exception of my last period which was bad, but only because it skipped 2 months (78 days actually).
I say this is odd because I’ve never had “normal” periods, normal for me was irregular, skipping months. Then the longer I went between periods the worse (heavier flow) it was when I finally got it again. I long for this crap to end!! I once went for 8 months without a period and when I finally got it again it was like Niagara Falls and huge clots. I stood up at one point and my pad wasn’t able to catch the flow and …. Well, let’s just say I left a crime scene from my chair to the bathroom and needed a shower and change of clothes. I’m 48 so come in menopause, let’s get this “no period ever again” train rolling! ?

Sounds just like mine also, but mine last 7-9 days

No blood on pad just when I wipe

Last month my cycle was different. The color was lighter and it stayed 3 days after it was suppose to be done. Julys cycle never came. Also I am 47 so I believe Menopause is just around the corner.

Only a couple of heavy days then just light flow the third day. Although lately, I have thick dark spotting for a week or more.

I have been on my period since May-almost three months straight! There are days with heavy clotting and some without. I just turned 51. Anyone else with the never ending period?

I only have spotting red to brownish

Absolutely nothing

I didn’t have mine for five months and had sex for the first time in that time and now I have a bleed light

My last period (that was 10 days late) was really bright in color. This month started a week early with every symptom there is and was only spotting when I peed??‍♀️

Whelp just came off of a 120 day cycle . The blood test told me I was menopausal and the the cycle came back after being absent for 4 solid months. I started noticing I was have PMS symptoms for the last two days and was like could this be a period visit or something else when I was blindsided by flo. My cycles as a kid were crazy painful and only childbirth and diet corrected them and made them pleasant visitors which have now been replaced by a drunken stranger that shows up erratically and trashes the place. I will be glad when this is over. I don’t my body anymore.

Hi I’m 49 in October, I had my last heavy period last July which lasted a month. Then 7 months later in February I had one which lasted 1 day and only saturated 1/2 a tampon. I had some cramping this week which felt like a period, but no flow only spotting/drops. Does that count as a period? I’m not sure?

Mine seems to come every single 28 days and last for approx. 2 weeks. I am clotting a lot more than I feel that I should. It can be more depressing to not get up out of bed and just stay there for ? reason.

Since my ablation due to very heavy periods that were making me anaemic. I miss periods and are more dark brown

I’m new here I’m 32, 33 in a couple of months. My periods are usually a 33-35 day cycle and they’ve slowly gone from 5/6 days down to 1-2 days in length. This cycle I spotted/lightly bled for 2 weeks before my period everyday then when my period came it was one day of heavy clots and then nothing it just stopped. I’m still having cramps and bloating as if I’m still on my period but no bleeding. Last month was similar but lasted 2 days and only one day was heavy.

It depends in the Monti: sometimes heavy sometimes light

I just joined this group today because I have gone nine weeks with no period and some experiences of hot flashes. I am only 51 years old!

I’m 48, and have recently noticed the time between my cycles growing shorter. I’m terrible about keeping track, which is one reason I downloaded this app! I’ve also noticed (in the past year?) that my periods are shorter, 4 or 5 days, and recently the discharge is darker.

Thanks everyone for the comments, I’m slightly different I’m only 45 but haven’t had a period for 10 years, that’s not to say I’ve been going through the menopause for 10 years, doctors think it’s my meds that stopped my periods. Before they stopped though they we heavy and lots of clots so I’m pleased they have stopped to be fair! I had to come home from work one day because every time I moved a clot came out it wasn’t pretty

i’m getting my period every 3rd month like clock work. And it’s unbearable pain and last at least 6 days ughh. i just don’t get my body at all

I had the mirena coil fitted because of the very heavy periods and excruciating period pain every month . I ve also got a number of small fibroids. However the coil is being removed in a couple of weeks as it’s been nearly 6 years that I’ve had it in. I’m hoping that my periods and pain don’t return. Fingers crossed

Hi! I just got my period after 10 months of no periods. Basically just spotting, only when wiping, but now I have to start over, so they say?! That really sucks! I was almost there! I just hope I don’t start having periods again! Im 53 btw.

How can I just have turned 50 and now I’m questioning everything about my period etc. clotting HAH. That is me literally!

Sorry I meant to say just turned 40 and now I’m questioning if everything is going to a$&? from this day forward or not

Mine changed slightly in a colour- some days they are more like raspberry colour with lots of clots. I always had heavy ones and some of my periods reminded me of when I was teenager. Some of them are lighter and with no symptoms at all

It was gone since January and here it is back eight months later It’s been three straight weeks of bleed. Somewhat light thankfully as it’s nonstop. Not really clotty anymore.

Mine are similar to Crissi’s but irregular. I just turned 50 and mine became heavier and irregular.

I‘m 47, about 3-4 yrs ago I started having brown smudges inbetween and smudging about 3 days before period started. Very irregular from 15 to 53 day cycles. Much bloating and swollen breasts which hurt two weeks before period. Am on Day 64 now and not missing it at all.

Im 50 n i thought my period had gone away after almost 6 months without getting it, but then in august it came slowly n i thought it wouldnt last but on the second day it was a big flow that lasted 7 days. why?

I am 41, used to be very regular 28 day cycle. Now ranging anywhere from 5 days between periods to 45 days between. I am on day 9 and still going. Sweating every night. 110 lbs, 5’4. Blood tests don’t show issues with hormones nor thyroid. Insomnia since kids were born 10 years ago.

Seems like i am now having a prodrome of a week or so of spotting before the real deal shows up. It’s not that it’s so much but there are clots as someone else mentioned when the real deal shows up.

I am 53 & feel like I’m going mental… I know this thread is about periods…& for that.. I’ve been pretty normal t/o the years, mostly regular…until the last cpl yrs. Had a VERY stressful event happen in my life & I think it catapulted me into peri menopause cuz my periods have bee sooo irregular. I’ll go up to a cpl months with out, then here it comes…then I’ll have 2 a month….. then i’ll skip awhile. We should get some sort of voucher for feminine products i swear. It’s not like u can leave the house with out at least a pad or pantiliner on… adds up! I was just wondering also if anyone else feels like they are also losing their mind. Having lots of those moments where u cant think of the word u want…. only it’s a simple word usually! Moodiness memory issues, overwhelm… that’s the biggest problem. I’m a nurse & I was queen of multitasking! I feel like now if i get too much going i get overwhelmed & stressed. I did have my dr do a blood test to see if i was in menopause… but his nurse called me with results of “the dr said to tell u your ovaries are still working” Um ok…. so I guess there’s no way to tell if it’s peri menopause? That’s not my area of specialty i guess… may have to do some research. Anyway… thanks for the floor to vent….& thx everyone for sharing on this sensitive topic! 🙂

My periods was extremely heavy when I was 40. Huge clots. I couldn’t use tampons I had to use two pads at the same time. Through the years it slowed down. But now that I’m 47 I’m skipping months. I may skip a month or two have my period for 7 days. Day 1 & 2 is light kinda spotty. Days 3 to 5 heavy but not extremely heavy like it was when I turned 40. Day4 & 5 a lighter flow I could use tampons again. Day 6 &7 flow light I could use lite tampons.

The actual period is not so bad, only last a couple of days. Haven’t had one in a few months. But the weeks leading up to it are rough!

It’s weird. Sometimes heavier, sometimes lighter. Typically it’s bright red, but sometimes it’s just brownish. Sometimes it lasts three days, sometimes five or six. Sometimes it’s after three weeks, sometimes after three months. It’s exasperating not to recognize my body anymore.

I’m 47, getting close to 48, never had children. My periods have changed from about 5 days to 10 days and I spot for the first 2, then heavy for the next 3-5, then spot for the last few. My period seems to come a week earlier each month! Ugh!

Hi I turned forty in July and I’m confused by my symptoms. I’m currently having a long period, it has gone to brown now but goes back to red sometimes. I’m assuming it is maybe peri menopause.

i don’t know what’s going on with mine? I guess i’ll start by saying some dr somewhere told me once that sometimes smaller people ( women who weight less) might have my type of issues! so….i didn’t have a period for 5 yrs then they started again, continued normal for couple yrs then they stopped again for about a year or so. this year i had one really heavy period maybe back in June or July. now it just seems like whenever (never know when) i will have light bleeding sometimes just dark brown like discharge and a little light pink blood when wiping! i’m glad i’m not having really heavy periods with pain ect but this little bit of light bleeding and dark brown stuff throughout the month just whenever is frustrating! especially when you still have a sex partner and never know what’s going to be what or when! ??‍♀️??‍♀️

Medium bleeding even though have a mirena coil ?‍♀️, after having a break from birth control for 3 months. Without mirena periods were horrendous

No period for 76 days. I have high anxiety and moodiness. Dry like the Sahara lol. Btw I am 45

They have became closed together from 31 days to 26 days. Am I in menopause??

I’m 45. I’ve been having mostly light periods for the past 2 or 3 years, and more and more I’m having only spotting, even barely-there spotting each month, not even sure if they are real periods at all! No PMS other than slight breast tenderness, and fatigue. Not complaining at all, just think it’s strange and wondering if anyone else has had this. My periods used to be very normal flow, 5-7 days, average 25-28 days apart, like textbook. Nowadays not only are they very light but they vary every 14 days to 48 days apart, just really unpredictable! I’m loving the barely there spotting for periods, sure hoping it stays that way and just eventually fades away!

My life: daily spotting with perhaps a break for 2-3 days, then spotting until
I get my period!!!! Seems like I can’t ever go without a panty liner or tampon!!! Tiring for sure…..

My periods have not changed since menopause. I’ve been taking a patch called Evorel for the last 6 months and I feel still like my womb is being ripped out. They’re heavy and I have to change at least every 30mins to an hour and the pain is awful too. I thought the menopause wa supposed to bring me relief of at least having no periods! It’s hell… ?

I had really heavy periods like clock work, decided I wanted baby before was to late, took coil out and not had period since ? It’s been 5 months now I’m 46, also have low b12 deficiency but doc said this would not effect my period so must be change, any advice would be great xxx

Periods are heavy as the have always been unless on bc. They are regular. I’m 50 years old and have never missed a period even with the mirena. I want them to at least start changing .

Mine were always 7 heavy days from the time I started at 12yrs old. They were more manageable when I was on the pill. In my 40’s I didn’t take any birth control anymore & mid-40’s it started to be slightly erratic. Still every 21-22 days but sometimes a light 4 days & randomly a disturbingly heavy day! Just after turning 50 they became VERY icky looking – heavy clots & heavy bleeds, every other weeks for about 7 months. This is when my doc mentioned menopause & I started to investigate. Also found I had severe fibroids which is why I’ve probably had so much discomfort for years. I’m 52 now & randomly still getting heavy periods with both light bleeding & heavy clotting but they’re usually manageable since I started taking progesterone (I didn’t want an iud). I’m also taking some natural supps that are amazing in reducing the other symptoms.

Mine are lighter than last year but longer in duration. They stop for three days or so then start again- I’m drained.

I’ve always been a heavy bleeder and clots during my cycles. Now I have a cycle every 3 months and still a heavy flow but not so much clotting. Cycle usually last about 5/6 days, very heavy during the first 3 days.

I would love to hear more about peoples experience using a cup. I’m so heavy I have to use a super tampon AND a sanitary towel AND I still have to change both regularly, sometimes twice before leaving the house in the morning for work.

After 2 years of not have my period. I got my period it lasted for 3 days. Not enough that I needed a pad. It like the end of a cycle.

My periods have got closer together from 28 day cycles to 25 amd are much heavier and last longer

I am new here i am 49 my periods have always been regular but the last eight months all over the place i bled for two months very light my doctor sent me for a scan all clear then i stopped for two weeks bled again so heavy had to come home from work then stopped now ive been bleeding for four weeks with no sign of stopping still clots somedays heavy some not i feel awful in myself headaches etc getting so down with it

My periods are the same with two days of very heavy flow and the spotting for up to 5-7 more days. This has been happening on and off for years. I ended up being extremely low in iron. My advice is to make sure you are having that checked. If you are low bringing your levels up makes a world of difference! I have finally decided to try the Mirena IUD. It is my last resort. I have to slow my flow!!

Hi , just wanted to reach out to Vicki (53 thinks she’s going mental ) and say that all the things you described are symptoms of peri menopause. The ‘word loss’ drives me crazy. At 54 I’m an expert in my field but feel now overwhelmed by multitasking and difficult to manage aspects of my job (which I love). So much so that I feel anxious that I’m going to get sacked.
My periods have always been light , now I have 90+ day cycles with brown spotting and no flow.
Your doctor didn’t answer your question properly. Of course you’re ovulating it’s peri menopause . It’s a common theme to have your symptoms misdiagnosed or trivialised. See if there’s a menopause clinic or doctor that specialises in womens health in your area. If not there’s so much help here and on other websites. You’re not going mad , you’re in the right place being here. ? big hugs and best wishes

I’m 52 and very tired. Two whole years of 4-5 week periods, two weeks apart. Periods started going wonky at 49. Last year, periods anywhere from 3 to 5 weeks apart. No rhyme or reason, sometimes they last 8 to 14 days. Anyone else in their 50s and still struggling?

I’m 46 and until this month have had completely regular periods. Then all of a sudden I started bleeding on day 19 which lasted 5 days. Then this started again 17 days later and I’m bleeding again. Both times the flow has been light, but I’m so confused 😕 I’ve had a very stressful month so am not sure if my hormones are out of whack or something else is going on. I’m also panicking as I’ve had two very large uterine polyps before (2 years apart) so am worried that I’ve got one back again. Please help! Is this normal at my age?

hello, my mom 52 and is having a period more than 2 weeks now, its not too much blood but when she wipes herself a lot of blood comes out, its pinkish. does anyone knows why is this happening or has some of uou experienced it begore?
