I started seeing a Chinese medicine doctor when my symptoms all hit me with a punch. I highly recommend going this route. Hot flashes went away almost immediately after starting on the Chinese herbs. The gnawing hunger and insomnia took longer but were addressed. The restless leg was the worst of it but 4 months after starting treatment they’re completely gone. I highly recommend it, especially finding a practitioner that focuses on women’s health.
Thank you for this recommendation. It’s a bit anxiety producing for me to think about finding another doctor. What process did you use – I have no idea where to start.

I started taking a probiotic that is specifically supposed to help with hormonal balance and they have made a big difference – my energy is higher, my stomach is not as crazy and upset all the time, my hair and nails are growing like when I’ve been on prenatal vitamins lol. I’m not a supplement person generally, but I’m on my second bottle of these and I take them faithfully. I’m not sure if there is a rule about brand names? I totally don’t work for them and I’m definitely not selling anything to anyone lol. The brand is sarkara (sp?) life…it’s their main probiotic on the site. I’ve taken lots of stuff in the past and either noticed no difference or it made me sick, so I’m happy to have found these.

For me a combination of St. John’s wort for low anxiety, evening primrose capsules and sage tablets – for the hot flushes have been life changing.

I have been taking turmeric which has helped a lot with joint pain and also ashwaganda which I feel has helped stabilise my moods. I’m still on the hunt for something that will help with the temperature fluctuations.
I’ve also been using ashwaganda, find it really works for me. Glad you’re finding it helpful ☺️

Hi All!
I am peri with mild hot flashes, vaginal dryness, hair loss, insomnia, and heart palpitations. I have tried a few things! Wild Yam-made my symptoms worse; Evening Primrose and Black Cohosh did absolutely nothing;
I currently take magnesium, vitamin D, CoQ10, vitamin C, and a collagen peptide which is doing wonders for my skin, slowing shedding, and provides some joint strength (if that makes sense). I also take Host Defense hormonal support which has almost completely stopped my hot flashes and balances out my mood. If I have moments of anxiousness, I use very little CBD w/out THC. Maybe with more time the insomnia and heart palpitations will stop. The journey continues…

I have used supplements for my perimenopause and now post menopause symptoms. I have adjusted what i take over the years and am always researching if a different symptom appears. i feel more in control and that i know my menopause journey well even if it constantly surprises me and i really really want it to be done. without my regime of supplements i immediately notice a difference. it could be placebo effect. i might be throwing mud at the wall to see what sticks but it works for me and my own autonomy and agency in making my choices is still very important at this time.

Has anyone tried remifemin or estroven. My obg recommened them but I didnt see very good reviews
Holly I’ve been taking Estroven for 2 weeks and it’s helped significantly with my hot flashes and night sweats, moodiness and brain fog also decreased. Insomnia, heart palms and hair loss are the 3 biggest issues for me right now. I’ve taken a time released Melatonin several times and once slept 3.5 consecutive hours without waking. The only reason I don’t take it regularly is bc i feel kinda out of it/“groggy and foggy” the whole next day.
I hope we all find relief from all or some of our symptoms.
Hello:) I have tried estroven and found that is does majorly help! However; I have the side effect of chest pain with it! Being that I haven’t found anything else that works as good I take it for a few days then off for a few days.
I have used estroven. It worked wonders for 6 months then the flashes started up again. Target Carrie’s 3 types of otc supplements & I rotate them in a 3 month basis. It lessens the symptoms considerably
I was using Estroven and my hot flashes went away for about 6 months so I stopped but they started again 3 weeks ago happen far more often. I tried a Centrum menopause multivitamin to help with hot flashes with zero relief. I purchased Estroven again last night and wont use anything else! No side effects for me.

CBD oil has helped with mood swings and joint pain. Still on the look out for help wit hot flushes.
CBD oil gave me the worst diarrhea, not sure why? I am hoping to find more natural ways to help ease my signs and symptoms through this Board. Thanks!

Turmeric, magnesium, Vitamin B complex, Vitamin C & Rosehip & Starflower Oil

I am having good results with 2 tablespoons of flax seed daily. My diet and exercise are already pretty healthy. My hot flashes were getting more extreme and this seemed to reduce it.
Do u grind the flax seeds first before u add them?
I was adding fresh ground flax seeds to everything for a while…not sure if it helped with menopause symptoms or not though.
I think it’s supposed to be an estrogen mimicker and estrogen decreasing in menopause cause some symptoms.
I added it to yogurt, salads, etc.
Nini
5000IU daily of plant-based Vit. D3 + K2 has significantly helped me with depression.
Sophie
Over the 9 years I have taken different supplements at different times for symptoms. Currently I’m using magnesium for joints and sleep and Indian gengsing for energy and adrenal fatigue. Helps me to feel a semblance of control?

Hi. What’s best: multivitamins or targeted vitamins? Not sure where to begin. It’s just a minefield. I’m new to peri menopause really struggling.
Darling welcome aboard! Lol. We r all searching for what works best. Research and read like a bat out of hell. Cause many of our doctors don’t know. This is ur special journey. Myself I’ve come across a plant based supplement from a company called new chapter. They have many items in their website that can work. Right now I do a multivitamin for woman a Vit D3 and a B12 complex. It is mixed with organic herbs. I limit my alcohol intake and try to stay away from junk food. I’ve increased my exercises along with Qigong. For relaxation and meditation. Try a few different techniques and when u find tools that work share the info and stick with it and make adjustments along the way. In it with ya!

Evening primrose
Apple cider vinegar with the mother

Magnesium Glycinate has helped me a lot for heart palpitations. (My doctor ran a series of heart related tests and ruled out heart problems. He then determined they were from perimenopause.)
Giulietta
Not mentioned in the section on supplements is evening primrose oil. Gelcaps twice a day. They have helped mitigate a severe case of hot flashes. Not eliminate but help reduce some of the intensity.
Elizabeth
Estroven Complete has reduced the number of hot flashes from several an hour to also my 1-2 a day.
My two cents
For pre-menopause dim supplements have been helpful like Estroblock and EstroSense. Also progesterone creams and oils.
BB-C
Magnesium, Folinic Plus (B complex), and vitamin D help. Just started taking DIM.
Bunny – I have been taking all of these for over a year now. DIM (diindolylmethane) is made from cruciferous vegetables and helps your body metabolize estrogen. It has been amazing! My symptoms were terrible- adrenaline surges, racing heart, palpitations, anxiety, panic attacks, and nausea. These supplements, particularly DIM, have significantly improved the symptoms.
Jayne
Sage helped within days of taking for hot flushes. But after a few years it stopped working. I now take a supplement called menovital ,it has massively reduced day and nite sweats. Magnesium, vitamins B and D also a prescribed vaginal cream called ovestin twice a wk application . Helps with dryness and that feeling I’m going to get a UTI.
Michele
I’m 49yo and have been on multiple supplements recommended by my doctor for 6 weeks now. I feel like all they do is make my body odor worse (on top of already having body odor changes due to peri menopause).
Dawn
There are a few things that are helping me. B12 but it’s got to be Methyl B-12 not the other stuff that starts with a C. Vitamin D3 I call my gummy sunshine, and an anti- inflammatory smoothie I found. Yes it’s one of those hide the kale in the banana and blueberries but this one also has turmeric and tart cherry juice. To my surprise cherry juice has 8% of daily recommended iron. I didn’t realize how much iron we need during menopausal times. If I run out of ingredients and skip my smoothie for too long I pay for it hard. A lesson I learned last week the hard way.
Vitex works/worked well for me but the hot flashes and headaches are creeping back and I don’t think I can or even should increase the dose at this point. I guess eventually nature must take its course but it was nice while it lasted!
It seems most people based on comments on posts, including myself, take specific supplements vs a multivitamin. A multivitamin might have something you don’t need. Sometimes too much of something can be as bad as not enough.
mstaz
I started Emerita progesterone cream (wild yam) for flushed face and overall feeling unwell/lousy. After 4 months of use, I am getting relief… this month. But since I started using it, my periods are getting shorter every month. I’m confused…
Lou
A mix of magnesium, sage and evening primrose have definitely helped.
Alex
So many supplements!
– Chinese herb mixes: one for meno that helps to regulate my cycle (a bit) and one for stress that helps with sleep and anxiety
– I also take an iron supplement, magnesium, omega 3’s for the inflammation and a general ‘over 50’s women’s vitamin mix’ to keep up things like vit c and e, folate. It also has some herbs in too (it’s the Swiss one)
– for hot flushes I add Blackmores menopause day and night which does wonders, but I don’t need it all the time
– that said I’m still considering mht atm as none of the above helps with sleep/mood changes/muscle aches
Fyi I’m in ‘late’ peri at 40 :/
ManuFab
Started magnesium and worked well for sleep, but recently I am waking up again in the middle of the night so I guess I need something for anxiety; ginseng and b12 for energy
Kris
Rose hip oil & progesterone cream has helped me.
Judith
Has anyone tried feminapause? I came across it in my research for supplements. Claims to stop a lot of issues. It is mainly B6, B12 and Hemp oil extract.

Magnesium has helped the constipation so much. I’m a lot more comfortable in that way ?
KateHw
Turmeric for joints, Magnesium for hot flushes/night sweats and Menopace for moods.
Karen
I’ve been using green lipped mussel capsules 500mg twice daily for joint pain. It’s been amazing, my elbows were the worst but I have no pain at all after being on them for 3 months now. Also to help with my hormone balance I’ve been taking pure evening primrose oil with star flower. I’ve found exercising as helped immensely.
Kat
Mg helps me sleep.
Lisa
I just started my menopause journey. I’m 49. I take magnesium, flaxseed oil, ashwaganda, B12 and estroven and am trying to eat lots of veggies. I think I’ve found that everytime I eat spicy food or drink caffeine I get hot flushes… so might have to cut that ?
Katrina
What type of magnesium are y’all taking? I have read that different types work for different things. I am taking magnesium oxide 1000 mg daily. I started taking it because of migraines. I am starting to think I am taking the wrong form and may not be taking the supplements that make the magnesium absorb or work like it should. HELP
Don’t take the oxide. The glycinate is better for peri menopause.
The oxide will help with bowel issues. Like a laxative.
LZ
I wish there was a “sort of” option. Women’s Health Network supplements helped soooo much when I started feeling off. I think either I’ve changed or they changed their formula because it’s not as helpful lately.
Terri
I was doing a clinical trial research back in 2020 but when COVID 19 came around I had to stop. The medicine they had me on help a lot no flashes at all, but when I stop taking the medicine the flashes came back.
Tabitha
I take GNC Phytoestrogens along with gabapentin that my gynecologist suggested and the night sweats and hot flashes have decreased significantly

Has anyone tried Chaste Tree supplement? I just started it a week ago. A good friend of mine that is a nutritionist started me on that and Ashwahghanda. I haven’t noticed a difference yet but I know it’s only been a week. I have almost all the symptoms, hot and cold flashes, insomnia, waking up early and all night with crazy dreams, not had a period in 3 months, brain fog, anxiety, and etc. the worst one is not sleeping! I am the type that needs sleep and I have always slept good until about 4 months ago and now I walk around like a zombie! I have been taking magnesium, another all natural sleep aid that has melatonin in it, cbd, to help sleep but so far it’s not! I am hoping the chaste tree and Ashwahghanda will kick in soon and level out my hormones. Just curious if anyone else has luck with it?
Angie
I started taking Hormone Harmony from Happy Mammoth. It’s kind of pricy, but it has worked to stop and minimize most of my symptoms.
I also take B complex, D3 & K2, Omega 3, and Magnesium glycinate. I still have some moments of anxiety and itchy skin, but not as bad as b4.
Skye
To be clear, HRT in and of itself was helpful, however I discovered the combination of the hormones and having surgery caused me to have a life-threatening pulmonary embolism and I almost died. So, I will never be able to continue taking HRT in the future, *sigh.
Lisa
