Estrogen-only Patch

Transdermal skin patches are used as a hormone delivery system to treat particular symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes and vaginal dryness, burning, and irritation. They are called transdermal (“trans” meaning “through” and “dermal” referring to the dermis or skin) because the hormones in the patch are absorbed through the skin by blood vessels and then delivered throughout the body. Estrogen (estradiol) patch is one of two such types of patches. Skin patches may be a better option than tablets if you find it inconvenient to take a tablet every day. They are also a good option if you suffer from migraines. Estrogen patches are usually used alongside replacement progestogen in order to protect the lining of your uterus. If you’ve had a hysterectomy, you don’t normally need replacement progestogen. Progesterone can be taken in the form of tablets or via the Mirena coil.

How effective have estrogen patches been for relieving your symptoms?

Now that I feel fairly normal again I realise how nuts I was for months. Mood swings, angry outbursts, crying jags, lethargy, you name it I had it. 2 months on patches and that has settled right down and my outlook is more Positive and my Mood really good. While I am getting migraine more often, I’m prepared to live with that because the alternative is just not on. Only issue I now have is weight gain. I’m too scared to get on scales but my clothes don’t fit. A very fashion conscious, 6 day a week gym goer, I’m despondent about the weight gain, BUT with Covid and months of hormonal craziness I know I upped the alcohol. I’ve been reading about liver function and all my symptoms suggest my liver is overloaded and so off the alcohol from today and see how we go. Wish me luck! Great to hear everyone’s stories, feeling so much less one. Love the app.

Yeah I am on patches and recently my weight has really gone uP, I think alcohol has a real impact on everything once you hit the menopause, let me know if you start to feel any better x

Patches were my last resort having tried 3 different types of tables and gel. Wished I’d insisted on them sooner, but the GP explained they were in short supply.
They are a better option for me (having had a total hysterectomy and bilateral oopherectomy) because I still suffer from endometriosis. They have also made a big difference to my mood and anxiety levels as I began to believe I was a depressive when taking tibolone (I was offered but refused antidepressants – so glad I did). I still suffer various symptoms despite the improvement – such as fatigue which is hideous for a really active, full-on person like myself. I am trying to pace myself (easier said than done for a very busy Mum!)

Highly recommend estrogen patch. Unfortunately due to a mixture of Brexit and women’s issues being low in medical priority certain brands are in short supply! ☹️

I found that they initially helped me for a few months no end , but after that I felt that they exacerbated my symptoms, so I took myself off them .
I’ve took nothing for the past few months which was kinda ok I managed the symptoms, but now I just wanna scream , came back like a bull in a china shop .This should be addressed with awomen that Parliament give us some kind of recognition . Understanding and copinv is a totally different thing

Anyone else had trouble keeping the patches on? I have been sticking them on my bottom and having been on them for a long time now I thought I would give my bum a rest. So GP said anywhere below the waist. I have been putting them on front of thigh but it seems my legs are really sweaty! Who knew?
Where do others place their patches and how do you keep them stuck down for 3 days?

I was told to put them on hip/bikini line area..then switch back and forth – this has worked well. Monday’s on my right lower abdomen just below bikini line & on Thursday on my left side… just rotate. Have been doing this for past year and very simple. Hope this helps!

Yes that’s where I put mine too. Lower abdomen. Shifting left and right

Currently NHS unable to supply my original make of patches and just an inferior brand

Did it help when you use it

Been on it for six months now and I wouldn’t go without it. I’m sleeping better, got a bit more energy, mood has improved and the hot flashes gone. I feel like I have a bit more control again

Hello, just started on the patch. Feeling pretty nervous about gaining weight. Is that always the case, do you know ?

I’m on Evorel patches, started last March, and I’ve not noticed any significant weight change.

Does anyone know when one should start the Evorel patches when switching from Oestrogel? I am in combined HRT with progesterone.

My GP has offered me HRT patches without conducting any tests to confirm peri menopause. I’m 42 and still have regular periods but alit of other symptoms point to peri menopause such as dizziness, blurred vision, low mood, anxiety and panic attacks.
I’m always worried about side effects from medication so unsure wether to accept HRT without confirmation in case it makes my symptoms worse
