Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the many chemicals (cannabinoids) found in cannabis plants. Unlike other cannabinoids like tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), CBD is not psychoactive. This means that it does not cause a “high”. Although there is no definitive research on CBD’s effect on menopausal symptoms so far, some studies suggest that CBD may have health benefits for pain, depression, and anxiety. Theories about CBD and menopause suggest that since menopause seems to disrupt the endocannabinoid system, and since there are cannabinoid receptors throughout the female reproductive system, it is possible that CBD could reduce some of the symptoms of menopause.
How effective has CBD been for relieving your symptoms?

I have epilepsy so I take a good dose of this when I need to in order to prevent myoclonus (muscle jerk seizures) however it is definitely proven to relax my mind and body but I would have to take it every day. The quantity I would need to take to help substantially with both seizures and perimenopause is far too expensive. So I just take some if and when I need it rather than more pharmaceuticals. I don’t buy from high street shops – I buy online as there are no additives and you do get more for your money. I wish the U.K. would catch up with the States on this one.
My heart breaks for you. It is a prescription drug in Canada, and legal to buy, like alcohol. Your medical insurance would cover you here.
I also HVE epilepsy & I live in TX I so wish it was legal my mthly medication bill exceeds 450.00 as I HVE no insurance & I HVE been to a few places where medical marijuana was legal less mthly expense & actually since menopause symptoms started the medical grade marijuana was WAY MORE EFFECTIVE ON MY SEIZURES & HOT FLASHES WEIGHT GAIN ANXIETY LEVELS IT JUST WORKED BETTER ALL THE WAY AROUND I WAS WAY HAPPIER TO THEN BACK TO TX & NOT ABLE TO GET MEDICAL GRADE HERE SURE NOT GONNA BUY SOMETHING FROM SOMEONE I DONT KNOW WHATS IN IT PLUS ITS ILLEGAL NOT TAKING THAT CHANCE MAYBE 1 DAY THEY WILL GET UP THE GUTS TO SELL LEGAL MEDICAL MARIJUANA
I’m fairly new to using CBD:CBG tincture and have got some relief with anxiety. Still trying to find the perfect dose, but it does help me relax a little.
I’ve been using CBD oil capsules for about 3 months now and have managed to come completely off a prescription medication for anxiety/depression whilst taking them. Lockdown seemed a good time to do this transition as although anxiety provoking I felt that my environment was more predictable, safe and controlled so a good time to try it. I am also taking HRT ( P 100mg tab & E Gel) which initially got the anxiety, panic attacks and flushes under control very quickly. I was prescribed the other meds as an additional help but never felt they were complementing my wellness. Since taking the CBD capsules I realise the quality of my sleep has improved, I always thought I was a good sleeper with the exception of peri menopause night sweats before HRT. I wake up after feeling I’ve slept what I can only describes as well and wake motivated to get up and the sluggish feelings have gone. Along with some additional motivation and mood lift I also realise that I’m more relaxed about things, my more rational thinking/approach has returned which is wonderful. Feeling and being reactive was so alien and upsetting which only added to my anxiety and feelings of not being me. The strength of the capsules are 720mg and I also suck a couple of CBD lozenges through the day. I’ve also started to use skin products with CBD ingredients. My plan is to now to research other alternatives and transition from the HRT (which has been a godsend so one that I’m very cautious about). Hope this helps those of you who are contemplating its use.
Best wishes,
Bev
Hi Bev, thank you – my experience of the perimenopause has been the same. Chaotic, intense and literally sending me insane. Cbd isolate is the only thing that has been keeping me level. I’ve come off SSRIs, benzos, sleeping pills and Valium for acute neuralgia now, thanks to it.
Hope you are well!
CBD isolate is the only thing keeping me sane through this. Especially, as it turns out, perimenopause has amped my histamine response to just about everything – including terpenes in “broad” and “full spectrum” CBD oil. After vaping a small amount of it at night, I ended up in the ER with 9/10 pain in my liver & kidneys. The doctors had no idea what caused it, there was no physical reason, and my liver is healthy.
However, I’m violently allergic to geraniol, a common component in plants. Geranium oil (found in most cheap cosmetics…) send me into anaphylaxis. Hemp oil is full of it too, as well as 200+ terpenes.
Please read Indigo Naturals blog, it’s written messily, but it’s referenced with medical studies.
On the other hand, CBD isolate has been magic for my anxiety, mood swings, mood crashes. It clears the mental fog, and allows me to get on with my life more or less sane. It calmed me down down enough to heal from an attack of sudden severe neuralgia – 9/10 pain. For a month. Nothing else touched the sides.
It’s also very cheap to buy crystals & mix into oil or vape fluid – the cheapest option there is. Especially since I’m on 5 mg/kg bodyweight / day dose. I’m 70 kg.
My symptoms started to get under control at about 50 mg /day (pure cbd isolate). At 350 mg/day, I have found sanity & peace. And rage at the doctors who misdiagnosed me for 3 years.
I would’ve gone insane without it. These hormones are smashing me. Now I’m getting my life under control.
Hi, can anyone recommend a brand of cbd oil they have found effective? I am very keen to try but am overloaded with choice on the internet and want to get a reputable brand. Thanks!
Check out Green Stem. It’s CBD isolate, I definitely recommend
I have tried CBD twice and found the experience horrid, numbing and deadening. It possibly relaxed me – in the way a general anaethsetic might.
I have tried two different brands and two different dose strengths and nope, not for me.
I never saw the fun in smoking cannabis my youth, and read later that it can affect people in very different ways depending on the shape of your cannabinoid receptors.
I’d like to start taking CBD oil to help me sleep, but I’m on Tamoxifen… anybody know if it’s safe to take the two?
Hi ladies,
For those who are taking cbd, can you advise on any particular brand. There are so many I’m not sure which I should try. I’m currently taking hrt and AD, but it’s my anxiety I’d like to rid of as it’s been the worst for me. Thank you in advance. X
Hi Jane
I recommend Sensi CBD myself and my partner take 5000mg as he has a rare illness and I just thought I would try that dosage too, I do feel better mood wise and my knee pain has eased, I buy from Releaf Secrets.
I frequently experience side effects with medications so I am experimenting with “natural” items to help with peri menopause. CBD oil does help me sleep better. I’ve been taking it for over a year now with decent results. I fall asleep easier and have less early morning wakening. If I do wake up in the middle of the night, I can usually fall back to skip if I’ve taken CBD. It’s not perfect, especially if I’m feeling more stressed or anxious than usual but it is certainly better than trying to sleep without it and no side effects!
